The Last of Us: Escape the Dark Board Game Announced
First we had the game, then books, an upcoming tv show and now it seems, we are about to dive into the world of The Last of Us in board game form thanks to Escape the Dark creator, Themeborne.
Developer of the board game Themeborne are working closely with Naughty Dog on the project with ND’s very own Neil Druckmann stating that he’s "excited to see Joel, Ellie and more of our beloved characters take on new life through stunning artwork and mechanics that immerse players in the world of The Last of Us".
Titled The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, the board game adaptation sees players (1-5) take on the role of either Joel, Ellie, Tess, Bill, Tommy or Marlene in which you progress in the world of The Last of Us using chapter cards in familiar locale that fans of the game will recognise including the sewers and the university. There will be threats throughout the game including hunter and the infected and players will need to use a mixture of cards and custom dice to overcome threats thrown at them at any given time.
The board game will also feature a weapon upgrade and crafting system that players can use to get an advantage during their play-through. Developer Themeborne has said that players can approach the game in either “stealth” or more of a “combat” focused way.
Fans can purchase the game through a Kickstarter that the company has set up and at the time of writing, the project has already smashed its goal target of £120,000 with a current amount currently at £490,331. Two versions of the board game are available to purchase with the standard edition costing £65 and the collectors edition which features extras including 6 character miniatures, dual-layer player boards and dice & token storage trays amongst other things.
