Frame by Frame - Visiting Calgary, Canada - February 2025

In early 2025, I will be travelling from the UK to Calgary, Canada to visit the filming locations from season 1 of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us and documenting them in video form and posting them to our YouTube channel. Season 1 of The Last of Us was filmed in two places within Alberta, Canada (Calgary and Edmonton) and this series of videos that I record will primarily be focused on Calgary and not Edmonton. The Edmonton filming sections could happen in the future, but at present, no plans have been made.

The name of the series I’ll be creating is called Frame by Frame - The Last of Us Locations and you can see the accompanying logo in the image above. It perfectly fits exactly what I wanted for the series. Whilst I won’t be able to film everything that was shown in season 1 of the show (due to some being filmed in another part of the province and the rest being filmed on set), a lot of it will be ‘filmable’.

At present an exact schedule hasn’t been finalised, but here are some of the places I’ll be visiting within Calgary that featured in season 1 including;

  • Downtown Calgary (that was used as Boston’s quarantine zone)

  • Beaver Dam Flats

  • Fort Macleod (that was used as the Watch & Jewellery shop that Sarah visted)

  • Main Street (used as Downtown Austin, Texas in the midst of the outbreak)

  • 4th Avenue Flyover

  • Fish Creek Provincial Park - Shannon Terrace Bridge (used when Joel + Ellie were hiking forwards Bill’s property in episode 3)

  • The Priddis General Store (used as a place that Joel stashed items)

  • Globe Cinema

  • Calgary Courts Centre

  • Calgary Zoo (home of Nabo the Giraffe)
